My work in mountain environments has shaped how I approach risk, teamwork, communication, and problem solving.
Avalanche Forecasting
Avalanche forecasting combines engineering - through analyzing snowpack structure, failure modes, and fracture mechanics - with communication, by translating this complex data into accessible warnings for the public and stakeholders to mitigate risks. My team and I build forecasts each day to accurately model & communicate the avalanche hazard in New Hampshire’s Presidential Range.
Mountain Rescue
In the winter months, I am a professional rescuer in leadership and incident command roles with the US Government / State of New Hampshire. I lead teams of 3 - 20 mountain rescuers to execute safe, effective rescues in technical terrain.
The rest of the year, I am a volunteer high-angle rescue technician in the Mount Washington Valley, New Hampshire.
Mountain Guiding
I spent about 8 years guiding clients in beautiful, remote, and high-risk mountain environments around the world. These experiences have been the foundation of my leadership skillset.
I’ve accomplished:
AMGA Assistant Ski Guide
AMGA Apprentice Alpine Guide
AMGA Apprentice Rock Guide
